The Ariège is an unspoilt corner of France. For the road cyclist
it offers everything you could want in a compact area. The terrain varies
from the gently undulating plain of the Languedoc region to uncompromising
mountains and the road network reflects these differences offering rides
of all styles.
The population is low in comparison to the UK or even other parts of France
leading to quiet if not deserted roads. In addition, the law in France
specifies that cyclists must be given space on the road although the marvelous
politeness, and respect for sport found in the local population makes
this unnecessary.
